When does a wisdom tooth need to come out?
Wisdom teeth usually need removal when they're impacted — blocked by the tooth in front and growing at an angle — or when they cause pain, repeated gum infection, trap food, decay, or damage the tooth next to them. Left alone, an impacted wisdom tooth can also contribute to jaw problems, sinus issues and alignment changes.

What the procedure is like
Wisdom tooth surgery is done under local anaesthesia, so you shouldn't feel pain during the procedure. Expect some swelling and soreness for a few days afterwards — most people are back to normal within about a week with soft foods and prescribed painkillers.
