Scaling and Polishing in Singapore

Professional cleaning from $80 — remove plaque, tartar and stains that brushing can't reach.

Why scaling and polishing matters

Even with good brushing and flossing, plaque hardens into tartar that home care simply can't remove. Left alone, tartar along the gumline leads to gum disease — the biggest cause of tooth loss in adults. Professional scaling removes it; polishing lifts surface stains and leaves teeth smooth.

We recommend a check-up with scaling and polishing every 6 months. It's the cheapest dental treatment you'll ever have — because it prevents the expensive ones.

Prophy-Jet technology

Our clinics use Prophy-Jet cleaning — no drilling, no vibration, quick and comfortable plaque removal. An optional fluoride varnish after cleaning strengthens enamel and adds cavity resistance (just avoid rinsing, eating or drinking for 30 minutes afterwards).

Scaling & Polishing — your questions answered

How often should I do scaling and polishing?+

Every 6 months for most people. If you're prone to gum disease, your dentist may recommend more frequent cleanings.

Does scaling hurt or damage teeth?+

No — scaling removes tartar and stains, not enamel. You may feel mild sensitivity during and shortly after, especially if it's been a while since your last cleaning, but it settles quickly.

How much is scaling and polishing at Smile Central?+

From $80, and CHAS cardholders enjoy subsidised rates. It's one of the most affordable treatments in dentistry — and the best prevention.

Why do my gums bleed when I brush?+

Bleeding gums are usually an early sign of gum inflammation (gingivitis) from plaque build-up. It's very treatable with professional scaling and good home care — don't ignore it.
